Dataset and app
Every public toilet in the app, with opening hours, facilities, temporary closures and mobile units at events. We handle maintenance and app updates.
For cities and towns · Smart city
tuluu connects municipal facilities, private partner businesses and digital coin-operated toilets in one app. Your city gains locations, collects citizen reports in one place and gets figures for planning.
Goal for city centres: an accessible toilet within 150 metres.
of respondents count public toilets among the things an attractive city centre must offer. First place on the list.
Source: cima, Deutschlandstudie Innenstadtis what a new public toilet costs, for exactly one location, after planning, permits and construction.
The radius within which an accessible toilet should be reachable: public, at a kiosk or at a tuluu partner. That is our goal for every city centre.
Toilet strategy
tuluu does not replace a toilet strategy. It makes every measure in it visible, usable and measurable.
| City measure | What tuluu adds |
|---|---|
| New permanent toilets | tuluu adds new sites to the network as soon as they open. |
| Kiosks and sites with cleaning fees | Every kiosk goes into the app with opening hours and facilities. |
| Contract toilets in restaurants and shops | tuluu maps the scheme fully digitally, or as a hybrid: subsidy per use instead of a flat fee. |
| Containers and mobile toilets in summer | Seasonal sites and hours only show while they are open. |
| Introducing a usage fee | Digital payment via the app, with a City-Bon as compensation if desired. |
| More accessible toilets | The app lets people search specifically for accessible toilets. |
| More for women and families | The tuluu babystation reduces the shortage of baby changing spots. |
| Every toilet in the city map and city app | tuluu provides all information via API. |
| Taking citizens' wishes into account | Citizen reports and fault reports make needs and problems visible. |
Smart city
tuluu is provider-neutral. Municipal toilets, contract toilets, kiosks or tuluu partners: every site comes together in one dataset, where it is cleaned up and enriched.
Comparison
New construction still matters, but it is expensive and slow. Classic contract toilet schemes often fail because businesses gain little. tuluu relies on incentives for everyone involved.
| Criterion | New build | Contract toilet | tuluu |
|---|---|---|---|
| Time to launch | Years | Months | A few weeks |
| Cost to the city | Six figures per site, plus operation | Fixed fee per business, even with little use | No subsidy per business, users pay per ToiletTicket |
| Incentive for businesses | – | Low | Payment and new customers |
| Control and data | On site | – | Usage, reports, analytics |
| Easy for citizens to find | Signage | Sticker | App, map, QR code |
Services
Eight building blocks, separately or together. tuluu runs the operation; your administration gets one contact person and a monthly report.
Every public toilet in the app, with opening hours, facilities, temporary closures and mobile units at events. We handle maintenance and app updates.
Cafés, restaurants and shops open their toilets for a fee. tuluu handles onboarding, support and settlement. On request, a scout recruits businesses on site.
A relay supplements the coin mechanism: the door opens via the app or with coins as before. tuluu forwards the revenue to your account after transaction fees.
Anyone who pays at a public toilet gets the amount back as a voucher for a local shop. On request in your city's design as a City-Bon.
Residents and visitors suggest missing toilets and new partners and show where toilets are lacking. The network grows where it is needed.
Faults, dirt and wrong information can be reported at every toilet. We bundle the reports and pass them on to the responsible department.
Usage, peak times, reports and redeemed vouchers per location, with heatmaps and demand analyses on request. Anonymous and free of personal data, as a basis for cleaning, site planning and council reporting.
Data for the city map, city app, website or open data portal via API, also for other system providers. Your city does not have to build its own app.
City-Bon
Anyone who pays for a public toilet in the app gets the same amount back as a voucher for a shop in the city centre. Citizens end up paying nothing, retailers gain footfall, and the claim that the city cashes in on an urgent need loses its basis.
The feature can also be switched on at free facilities.
At the pilot site the tuluu relay supplements the coin mechanism instead of replacing it. Existing hardware stays as it is; the door opens via the app or with coins as before.
People without a smartphone keep paying with coins. Printed ToiletTickets are also possible for specific groups, for example via advice centres.
The monthly report contains no personal data. Your city sees usage, peak times and reports per location, not who used the toilet.
Process
To start, we need a list of your facilities and one contact person in the administration.
We agree goals, locations and responsibilities, happily by video.
You send the list of facilities with opening hours and features.
Within a few working days your facilities are in the app.
A relay on one coin toilet, the first partner businesses, the first vouchers.
The partner network grows and the monthly report tracks progress.
Questions
We will get back to you within two working days to arrange a call, by video or on site.
